The Future’s So Bright: Numbers Game

NOTE: This stuff may not have happened yet.  If Simon really invested ALL Cass’s money in the club, rather than just “all he could allocate to a personal project” then he hasn’t done this yet.

Running a financial empire was a lot of work.  Doing it all yourself was even more work.  Simon wasn’t ”totally” on his own.  He’d been glad to hire Rover to ride herd on the contractors working on the club.  But that meant he spent a good bit of time smoothing over hurt feelings with the contractors.  Rover’s work was worth the effort, though, and Simon was really good at smoothing over hurt feelings. The Future’s So Bright: Real Estate

The real-estate agent’s name was Tandy Pruitt.  She drove a candy apple red BMW, and looked really snappy in her gold blazer, with her dark hair worn in a pile at the back, held in place by a shiny gold clip.  She wore a pencil skirt just a little on the short side that covered a magnificent ass in a way that let Simon know that she was well aware how stupid some guys could get around a pretty girl.  But her professional mix of flirting and patter broke every once in a while, particularly when he smiled at her. The Future’s So Bright: Introduction

The process, after things were in motion, went remarkably quickly.  The Wyrd was really working overtime since Less’s contacts were able to find the birth certificate of a “Simon Daniel Beal” who would be about Simon’s age, but who had died minutes after birth in a town in Iowa that had subsequently been destroyed in a freak windstorm some years ago.  So that information would be pretty hard to uncover unless you were looking, and the Wardens of the Bleak Seal promised to make it more difficult still. Full Moon Run Part 1

The sun had barely begun to rise above the horizon when Rey stepped through the door of the hotel where she was housing her working girls. The two courtesans had been dealt with earlier, charges to room service billed against their earnings on a weekly basis. The accounting required for the regular girls was a bit different. She’d collect the proceeds from Mizuko, check to see how things were going, and then take care of any other business. Continue reading Full Moon Run Part 1

Meeting Storm Front

Rey looked down at the map on the screen of her smartphone, then at the address on the building in front of her. Steve’s Steakhouse took up a good portion of the block, and it looked like the other buildings had grown up around it. Given the tummy-rumbling-inducing smells in the air, she wasn’t surprised at Lyla’s choice for dinner. The steakhouse was known for their huge portions (at not so huge prices), and it had one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings for steakhouses in Santa Fe. Continue reading Meeting Storm Front
