The day after Mira took Nieve and met Rey for a girls night out, she couldn’t help puzzling over whether she should see Paul again. When she thought of the things he’d described they could do together, the temptation was almost irresistible.

Which was the problem. Who was seducing who here? Paul was a mortal. One who was a vampire’s servant, yes, but still a mortal. Shouldn’t she be the one singing her song to draw the stray to her drowning pool? Of course she should be, she told herself.

When Paul called the next Saturday evening, Mira confirmed she was available for Sunday. He agreed to pick her up at her apartment in Santa Fe around lunch time. She packed up a few things, called for a driver, and was on her way out of Remy’s mansion when she was intercepted.
