A Little Rebellion

November 13th, 2011

It had been a very busy two weeks for Rey after the evening of the Hallowe’en Ball. Between work, the meetings about the new restaurant, the research and everything else she was doing, she barely had enough time to sleep. The stress was beginning to take its toll, and when she started fantasizing all the horrible ways she could main and otherwise harm the people who interrupted her, she realized she needed to take a break. Spending time in the company of any of her friends, the motley, or Richard or Chase, was not an option; she didn’t want to accidentally lash out at them.

As she walked down the streets, her feet automatically took her on the route she often went to work, but this time, instead of turning right to go to the casino, she turned left toward a series of small shops she’d never really paid much attention to before. About two blocks north of the train station there was a row of small, rundown looking shops, the kind with rundown apartments overtop them. One of the stores caught her eye, not for its flashiness, but for the very fact its signage was sedate, almost boring next to all the others.

Rey found herself stopping in front of the store and looking in. Rudi’s Body Art wasn’t really much to look at. In fact, if not for the tattooed and pierced woman standing behind the desk, one would think it was the waiting room or front entrance of an office or gallery of some kind. With a flash of recklessness, Rey opened the door and went inside. An hour later, she walked out with a packet of information and an appointment set for the next evening.

The next day, Rey was back there, even a bit early, waiting to be seen by Rudi herself. For what the changeling wanted, Rudi was the best in Mythic, a fact Rey had confirmed by calling and asking other shops and checking online. Rey was nervous, not to mention a little fearful, but she was Autumn, and she would not be conquered by her fear. She would embrace it, and then reap the benefit of doing so later.

Rey was walking back out the door two hours later, after the discussions about what Rudi would be doing and how to prevent infection and promote rapid healing. It didn’t hurt, though she wondered how much of that was sheer adrenaline. She was pleased with the way it looked, and with her little rebellion, her little adventure over, she felt good enough to go back to work.
