Letters Home #4

Dear Grey,

I made some new friends today, almost by accident.  One of them was being chased by four gang members, but they gave up the chase before I got there to help.  It’s almost as if the five of us were supposed to meet then and under those circumstances.  One of them was the guy I was told to find.  I don’t know if I really like the idea of Fate getting involved with my life.  It’s brought me so much heartache.

It’s also brought me so much joy.  If it hadn’t brought me to Eldon Well, I’d have never met you.  Dear god, that sounds awful, doesn’t it.  So hokey.  But it’s the way I feel.

I went for a walk in Iron Mountain Park a couple of days ago, and one of the paths take you past a place that looks a lot like Broken Door Rocks.  Do you remember the last time we were there?  For the first time, you actually had to work a bit at catching me.  I still remember the look of pride on your face when I finally managed to catch you, and our “feast” afterwards.  I’m surprised we didn’t cause a rock slide.  If I close my eyes, I can almost feel like I’m back there with you.

I wish I could have brought something from home with me when I came out here.   The house is so empty.  It feels more like a motel room than the place where I live.  Technically, I’m not alone, though.  One of my new friends is homeless, so I’m letting her stay in the guest room until she’s back on her feet.

Time for me to go now.   Tomorrow’s going to be a very busy day.

Love you!

Rey
