Merchant Captains Express Concern Amidst Increased Sky Pirate Attacks

Day 249 of the Year of the Dragon

The Skies over the nation of Arcanum Draconis have never been safer.  Within the boundaries of our shores, the people that reside on the Isle of Chronus enjoy the unique experience of being nearly completely protected from outside attacks.  This has allowed the people of Arcanum to pursue great things in the name of progress.

Outside of the realm, however, a different story is told.  Merchants bringing goods to the city and taking goods to other locations have reported sightings and encounters in increased numbers of Sky Pirates, vicious marauders that attack without warning and loot ships of all their valuables.  The Merchant’s Consortium called these attacks, ‘Heinous and without honor.’

One such merchant, Abel Trandson, recalled a nearly fatal incident involving his merchant vessel, the Skylark.  “It was like a combination of booming thunder and crash landing,” said Captain Trandson.  “They were lying in wait in the cloud line and dove down in two fast ships!  I’d never seen anything like it!  The only thing I could do to avoid heavy damage was dive towards the water and pray like hell I could outrun them before they could disable my shroud and engines.”

“They pursued me up to a mile away from safety!” said Captain Bell of the merchant’s vessel Ophelia.  “They kept dogging me, firing shots across my nose!  I had so much damage to the stern of the ship I could barely tell it was an airship anymore by the time we docked!”

“We’re addressing this problem as swiftly as we can,” remarked the Lady Regent Kinjita Karedric when interviewed about the recent escalation in attacks from these Sky Pirates.  “They’re a menace to be sure and their recent rise in attacks is of grave concern.  Recently we’ve brought in a new Commander for our Naval Forces and it’s our hope that with the change in leadership there will be a change in tactics for dealing with these raids.  In the meantime, we are taking every step we can to repair and fortify these vessels within the limits of our shipyard.”

The Commander in question, Katherine Elizabeth Fontenot, was not available for comment in regards to any new tactics being considered.  Hailing from a proud, educated, military background the Commander looks to bring a strength of leadership to the Naval Forces of Arcanum that may be sorely needed in these troubled times.

Citizens wishing to report further attacks should conduct themselves to the nearest magistrate.  Those wanting to volunteer for Naval Service, please visit the Royal Manor at your earliest convenience to enlist for service.
