Aysha walked into the Jedi Archives and logged in under her Temple Knight credentials.

“Authorizing… succeeded. Hello Knight Major Aysha Shiba Melantha. What is your request today?”

Aysha responded, “Computer, I need everything we have regarding the case of the Jedi Academy bombing four days ago.”

    “Of course, Knight Major.

“The bomb detonated during a meeting of the Jedi Council four nights ago. Fourteen individuals were killed immediately or died of injuries shortly thereafter. The list includes Master Hanti and thirteen Jedi younglings and their guardians. Those in critical condition include the child Sohlar and High Lady Lumiani. Many others were treated for injuries ranging from minor to serious and released.

“No groups are known to have taken credit for the attack.

“Investigation is ongoing. Every House of Vanquished Illusions is focused on finding who did it and why.”

“Thank you, computer,” Aysha said. “Summarize for me all secondary and circumstantial information currently known about the condition of the Jedi Academy and events leading up to the bombing.”

“Five days before the bombing, there was an attack using gas to incapacitate the Academy. You were assaulted, resulting in the theft of your DNA from spinal fluid, bone marrow and egg-”

“I know all that, computer. Skip to the relevant part.”

“Yes, mistress. It is known substances used were acquired from Czerka’s Chemical Warfare catalog. The identity of one responsible for the attack is obscured using a genericized alias, Dr. Black.

“The second attack occurred not long after, the next night. Also employed were Czerka equipment in the form of battle droids and fighter craft of the sort to be sold to… individual ‘entrepreneurs’. The identity behind this attack is (REDACTED), who is a relation to Jedi Master Kinjita.”

Aysha thought about that. “Computer, correlate these known facts. What possibilities do we have?”

    “From available data, predictions include:

    • Possible backlash from a pirate group recently placed under a great deal of pressure by High Lady Lumiani and Vanquished Illusions.
    • A targeted attack meant to place VI on alert and distracted.
    • An attempted assassination of someone who was in attendance of the Jedi Council meeting.

“Other possibilities will be reported as they are presented.”

Aysha sat back and rubbed her head. This was going to be a tough investigation.

It had been a few days since the bombing on Tatooine and, yet, even beginning to enter the atmosphere Kinjita could still feel the pain of the many who suffered at the hands of the still unknown attacker.  It only seemed to grow worse as Xenophia brought the Silverhawk down to the Academy’s Shuttle Pad on the far end of the grounds themselves, the smoke from the damage caused by the explosion still lingering some at the top of the overlook.  Though Kelvarna had already given a full report of the damage being the first one allowed back on site with the investigative teams, the scope of the destruction was still something to take in and it only made the pain she felt through the Force worse.

She made her way slowly through the compound’s upper entrance to the parade grounds where the winds has already blown the sand over the blood stains that were left behind by the fatalities.  Pausing, she closed her eyes as she concentrated on blocking out the memories briefly as the overwhelming sounds of the explosion that occurred above repeated in her head.  As hard as she tried, the voices of the younglings still somehow lingered about around her like a constant reminder.

A hand touched her shoulder briefly as Temple Knight Shara spoke to her in a soft tone, “Master Kinjita, are you alright?”

Her eyes snapped open and her head tilted forward from a position that seemed to be pointed downward, her hair falling back in place.  She smiled, though it seemed forced, and replied, “Lingering presences Shara, it’s alright.  It will take time for me to filter them out.  I’ve always had a difficult time forgetting the faces and voices of children when they’re lost needlessly.”

Shara nodded.  Trained personally by Kinjita, Shara understood Kinjita better than most, knowing to simply leave the question alone.  Kinjita always seemed to bear the burdens of others and this is one that she would endure and turn into a strength.

Kinjita once again proceeded forward towards the entryway to the Elevator that would eventually lead to the CIC, rubble still left untouched by her instructions.  The investigative crews hadn’t finished their work and she wanted to leave nothing to chance if it meant finding those responsible.  She was solely responsible for the Jedi Order for the time being and it was best to leave no stone un-turned.

The door hissed closed as they entered and the short ride up to the CIC seemed twice as long, as if everything was playing in slow motion.  Closing her eyes again she could sense the memory presence of others in the lift. Commander Kaigami as he spoke over his comms with Aysha, Kynane as she tended to the heavily injured Lumiani, and Hanti.  Her presence was strongest somehow but the feelings she got were confused in the chaos.  Was it panic she felt from her, or frustration?

As the door hissed again to open she once again opened her eyes, this time to be met by the armored guise of Kelvarna as she stood at the door in a manner befitting the highest caliber of Knight’s Guards.  As she spoke, the Zakuulan accent shone through, “Master Kinjita, we’ve secured the CIC and Council Overlook.  The Noetikon Transmitter and your office remain locked as per lockdown instructions.”

Kinjita nodded in confirmation. “Good work Kel.  Have the investigative teams arrived yet?”

Kelvarna nodded. “They have but wanted to wait until all areas were accessible before beginning, which I can understand.  It’s always best to have every piece of the puzzle before starting to try to piece things together and we don’t know if anything made it into the rooms before they were locked down.”

“A sensible precaution,” Kinjita said with a nod. “How bad was the overall damage?”

“Severe,” Kelvarna replied frankly. “The backup computer is completely destroyed but the primary data core is intact.  Our holo-imager is offline across the complex so we’ll have to rely on voice comms for the time being.  The sensor system was damaged so we have limited range.  I’ve sent out some security personnel to operate as advance scouts to give us warning if anything is incoming.”

Kinjita arched a brow at the final part of the report and remarked as she started slowly for the Council Overlook, “How has that worked so far?”

Kelvarna smirked a bit and followed up by answering, “They reported you incoming three minutes before your arrival.”

Kinjia put a hand on her hip and shook her head, a soft smile appearing briefly. Her tone seemed appreciative, though pensive as she retorted, “I might just have to put a permanent post out there for them to keep those posts if it worked that well.  Nice to have a backup to extended sensors once they get them repaired.”

Kelvarna nodded in understanding, continuing, “Other than that, the damage to the rest of the facility was superficial, aside from the loss of personnel.  We lost ten guardsmen, Kel Dor Master Khamal, Knights Emon and Ilia, and thirteen of the younglings that were on site.  I did, also, just get a report that a fourteenth passed away at the emergency facility in Anchorhead.”

Kinjita sighed, stopping just inside the Council Overlook area. “Fourteen younglings…”

“Izax claim them,” Kelvarna remarked softly.

Kinjita paused briefly remembering Kelvarna’s Zakuulan beliefs, then nodded once again. “They return to the Force, though well before their time.”

Kelvarna nodded and spoke with a slightly darker tone, “I will have Justice for them, I assure you of that.”

“Justice, yes, but it will be done as the Jedi have always done,” Kinjita commented in observation of Kelvarna’s heightened emotions.  “The Grandmaster would have us do no more than that.”

    “How is she?” Kelvarna inquired.

“The Admiral says she is recovering, though slowly,” Kinjita responded with a softer tone. “Layania will be acting Grandmaster for the time being.”

Kelvarna nodded once and declared calmly, “We best get started with this investigation then.  Patience may be a Jedi virtue but I would see those responsible pay for their crimes, and the longer we delay, the less chance we have of catching them.”

Kinjita nodded in agreement and stated plainly, “Indeed.  Let’s get this done properly and thoroughly.  For the Grandmaster, and for those we lost..” She trailed a bit in thought, then added upon that after a moment, “And for Hanti.  Her actions brought her to the Force.  I’m sure of that now.”

Kelvarna seemed surprised at that, but only nodded in reply as Kinjita made her way to the hidden security panel near her office door.  As it slid open, Kinjita stated her command, “PICOS, recognize for authentication.  Savanos, Kinjita, Jedi Master.”

The system chirped a short affirmative response.  She continued, “Release the lockdown, Authorization code Krayt Three Seven One White.”

The lights behind both locked doors suddenly came up, and the main power sequencer came online in the Council Overlook, though a damaged light fixture responded by sparking a few times before fizzling out.  She looked to the light as it died and spoke plainly. “Let’s get to work.”

From: Master Kinjita Savanos, Voice of the Jedi Order

    Subject:  Bombing Investigation Results

    Layania,

A number of Jedi, alongside representatives from House Kanteu and House Seran, conducted an on-site investigation in conjunction with House Illuminatus Investigators combing the bomb sites for evidence and going through our electronic records that were released once the lockdown was lifted.  The 331st did an admirable job finding pieces of the bomb and identifying the explosive used and our teams followed up with more that we may be able to use to identify our attackers.  The results were disturbing, to say the least.

Alpha Team conducted a detailed debris search of the main bomb site to discover any components that may have been missed in the sweep lead by Major Moreanton.  They discovered components consisting of rudimentary wiring and a negative core power source that are common to many bomb-making materials, suggesting that the device was improvised professionally but designed to look common in nature.  This suggests a professional in the deceptive arts.  An adehsive was found that may have been used to attach the bomb to it’s point of origin.  We’ve sent that to House Kanteu for analysis and hopefully to obtain a source where this particular adhesive may have been purchased.

Beta Team worked with the CIC computer to recover sensor records for the last two days before the bombing as well as holo-recordings from all over the site, including where the smaller bombs went off near the security office on the far edge of the compound, as well as the barracks where the bulk of the fatalities involving the younglings were had.  There was some tampering with time-stamps on the recording which suggests intimate knowledge of our computer systems. Scouting from the attackersappeared to have been conducted both in the air and on the ground with personnel at the far edge of our sensor and camera zones donning well faked Security gear but not adhering to our normal security procedures.

A ship was seen at the edge of sensor range on sensors and caught by our Council Overlook Holocam.  After enhancement we were able to determine that, while bearing Czerka markings, the craft did bear nearly identical features to craft used in the recent assault on our unmanned space station obtained from House Elleghon.  General deduction would suggest that the attacks are, indeed, linked.

What’s most disturbing was the final image taken of the bomb being planted.  A form of new stealth technology was employed distorting the primary image as well as the infrared view of the event.  The only filter that was able to pick up any details was the ultraviolet frequency which brought an outline of a rather large intruder who managed to plant the bomb undetected.  Further attempts to try and enhance that image failed so we only have a general size of the assailant.

With the investigation concluded on site we are beginning recovery and clean-up efforts.  We are awaiting a follow-up from House Kanteu’s Financial Branch to determine where the adhesive was procured so we can pursue the active leads at that angle.

    With Regards,

    Master Kinjita Savanos

House Illuminatus, led by Kaigami, Aysha, and Kinjita, requested assistance expanding the investigation begun by the 331st and the Jedi Order. The report to Houses Kanteu and Seran included the following:

“Determined: 4 pirate groups known to have built similar bombs to that used to attack the Jedi Council at the Jedi Academy.

“Further details indicate that a power plant on Ziost was known for refining electrum and selling materials on the black market to lowlifes and hired guns.”

“Research using data found at the bomb site revealed several possible matches, but this was successfully narrowed down, with high likelyhood to a particular individual: a non-Force user pirate known as Adar Diem. He is a Rattataki and affiliated with the pirate group Scarlet Chorus. This group was named as one of the four groups known to have employed bombs similar to the one used in the bombing.

“Research was also done into the Czerka vessel that was seen lurking at the periphery of the Jedi Academy grounds. Identifying markings revealed that the spying ship had also been seen in the vicinty of the Jira Star Cluster, Illum, Oricon and Manaan.

“Admiral Kynane used her contacts to investigate areas of known activity for the Scarlet Chorus. She was able to narrow it down to the same four locations the spying ship had been active. We understand this was done at considerable personal risk, and it is likely the Scarlet Chorus are aware they are now being hunted.”

The report was signed with the Seal of House Illuminatus and delivered to Houses Kanteu and Seran with a request to take action on this information. In High Lady Lumiani’s name, the Temple Knights request VITALS agents and other members of these two houses to seize, verify, and eradicate or otherwise eliminate the threat the Scarlet Chorus poses to the security of Vanquished Illusions.

    Report from the Field: Lumiani

“House Seran has narrowed down the fields of operation used by the Scarlet Chorus to three different planets plus the Jira Star Cluster. Admiral Kynane sent out her people to track down where they were currently most active and capture or annihilate them.

“Joined by Nikidel and I, Kynane led a stealth mission to Ziost to hunt down the leader of Scarlet Chorus pirates. In the process, we found that the pirates had yet to be paid for the bombing job, leading to unrest in their ranks.

“Nerat was found to be the leader of this group. Something is terribly wrong with him and his “Voices”. These ‘Voices’ appear to all be Dark Jedi, though where they got their training and from whom is still a mystery.  They also are a relatively new addition to the Scarlet Chorus, and most suspiciously, shortly after their arrival the leader, Ashe, was found guilty of treason and put to death.

“Nerat then challenged the woman who was to be Ashe’s successor for the right to lead the Scarlet Chorus, killing her and earning command.

“Admiral Kynane concluded that Nerat and his Voices seem to have an ulterior agenda that does not match up with that of the Scarlet Chorus, seeing that Nerat appeared unconcerned over the delayed payment as well as their arrival in the Chorus just before Ashe’s conviction.”

Lumiani pauses for a moment to allow the viewer of the holorecord  to absorb this information

“We were able to confirm that hundreds of the pirates were neutralized by Seran forces. We sent Niki back to the ship with a captured Dark Jedi while we continued our search for Nerat.

“We located his base camp, engaged Nerat and were able to capture him alive, if not entirely intact, and Admiral Kynane secured all of Nerat’s databanks for our slicers to decrypt and analyze. This man is a Zeltron Jedi, so be warned! Question him in the brig but do not allow him out of his bounty cell. Not only does he have Jedi powers, but his natural Zeltron ability to influence others is enhanced to the point of being off the charts. I recommend interaction with him be strictly done through droid interpreters.

“There are still many questions. Who hired them? What was the motive for the bombing? Who does Nerat answer to? Where is Cahweba Pateesa? Perhaps the answers reside in the data that Kynane downloaded from Nerat’s command center.”

“I am now headed to VI-controlled space. I expect to arrive at the Eternity soon. High Lady Lumiani, out.”

    After-Action Report:

An investigation was conducted in the newly finished brig where members of the pirate group known as the Scarlet Chorus were being held along with the man identified being the bomber at the Jedi Academy, a Zeltron Jedi known only as Nerat.  During the investigation it was discovered that a figure known only as Patronus was responsible for organizing the entire endeavor, an all out attack on V.I. at it’s core.

During the interrogation one of the lower ranking pirates was killed accidentally when a blaster being operated by one of our interrogators went off.  The matter of neglect is currently being investigated and it is expected a hearing will be had on the incident.

In the confusion, Callum Westwood appeared to facilitate the escape of Nerat who quickly gained access to an escape shuttle.  Callum had not been previously identified as being investigated as an inside leak but his credentials in our system and landing permissions have now been revoked, and his likeness has been spread to all allied systems in an attempt to track him down.

More importantly, during the escape, the sole capital vessel of House Illuminatus, the vessel of the same name, was destroyed with most hands aboard.  One quarter of the crew was recovered via escape pods, though some damage was taken to our own personnel via pods that were rigged with rudimentary explosive devices.

We are currently tracking their last known trajectory which has lead to a Czerka facility on CZ-198.  The Eternity has taken active pursuit in hopes of catching both Callum Westwood and Nerat before they can do any more damage.

Also of note is research performed by Colonel Moreanton indicated that pirates had been raiding Thyferra shipping lanes to acquire large quantities of bacta, which they then offered at a deep discount compared to normal pricing. Their company named as their primary customer was Czerka.

Furthermore, Moreanton’s investigation uncovered the money trail. It was clear it that sales were not going toward paying their own people. It lead instead to Tapani Sector…

    331st Combat report

A small team led by Colonel Moreanton was deployed to CZ-198 to perform a surgical strike on an auxiliary communications station used by the Scarlet Chorus.  They were met with relatively light resistance, and due to the precision and speed of their attack were able to catch the garrison unaware.

A commander equipped with advanced armor, as well as several lightly armed pirates were neutralized as the base was captured. A communications officer as well as a guard were taken prisoner. The communications array was able to be kept online, and authentication codes found on one of the officers were used to deflect suspicion that the base had been attacked. No distress signal was sent, and as of this moment, the communications array is operating as normal. The troopers guarding the base are using captured Pirate gear while outside the base to maintain appearances

It is hoped that from this base we can launch surprise attacks against the  Pirate’s main encampment, and with our access to their communications we can be one step ahead of them

In the event that the base is recaptured by the pirates, Demolition ordinance was set up throughout the building, the detonator is in the possession of Colonel Moreanton.

It has been noted by Participants in the raid that the garrison was significantly smaller and more poorly equipped than expected. Recommend observing communications sent to outpost for accuracy for a time before committing forces based on that source of intel. Additional guards have been sent to the base to prevent an ambush.

There were no 331st casualties during this strike

    Incident Report:

During a private gathering which took place both in the Office of the Voice on Tatooine and several locations on Varonat, a few new facts have come to light in regards to the recent bombing.

A child of Dardin and Tamilia Khur by the name of Umi was on Tatooine before the time of the bombing and was contacted discreetly by what was then an unknown entity which was caught on holocamera.  It was later discovered that this entity later also contacted Hanti after attempts to have Umi warn the council fell short.  This was discovered to be the way that Hanti was able to warn the Jedi Council of the bomb a few seconds before it detonated.  Umi was instrumental in providing us these details during a private meeting session.

Remaining details taken during our most recent session are remaining classified as they pertain to personal details on a current members of our Order which I feel are not appropriate to be placed into an official report.

Report of 331st salvage operations of pirate stealth vessels

    – privates ashwellen, Elsa Bloodhawk, and aidonek assisted with salvage operations, we were able to recover a functioning cloaking device, as well as the logs from a navicomputer, and a list of the scramblers used to hide engine exhaust while cloaked. We were able to destroy the remaining wreckage so that the cloaking technology could not fallback into enemy hands. A pirate salvage vessel also entered our airspace as we ended the operation, likely with the same objectives that we completed. It was promptly destroyed.

all pertinent technology was transported to the science deck for analysis

Final report regarding the matter of the Scarlet Chorus, by High Lady Lumiani

After questioning dark jedi master Cahweba Pateesa, we determined the location the headquarters of the Scarlet Chorus — or at least it’s dark jedi masters; Debon III in the Jira Star Cluster just of the Rimma Trade Route to Tapani Sector. They had set up inside a volcano in order to fool casual sensor readings.

At this time new construction on the heavy battlecruiser, Freedom, had been completed. First of a new class of ships, this was designed according to my own specifications with a focus on ion-based weaponry, heavy shields over armor, and a fully automated crew.

In addition, the battle carrier, Virtue, was delivered. It has multiple quick launch and landing bays, droid star fighter wings and extensive point defense turrets.

With the Freedom leading the way, our fleet moved to Debon III. Nineteen VI volunteers in various light cruisers and freighters met the fleet at the planet While the Freedom used ion rockets and heavy weaponry to clear a path through any cloaked enemy fighters, the team made landfall.

The team drove off nearly thirty pirates and skirmishers after a fierce struggle near the entrance of the base. From there, resistance was minor. It did not impede our progress.

We found our quarry at the highest levels of the fortress. Patronus himself was there along with several dark jedi and a dark master. The battle intensified dramatically.

In the end, I killed Patronus personally. Two of the dark jedi and the dark master were take prisoner.

All our Scarlet Chorus and dark jedi prisoners have now been turned over to the Republic as they were east wanted for piracy and murder.

The dark jedi master appears to be related to Master Kinjita. He remains in our custody.

In thinking back on the final confrontation, I am… discomfited with the resolution of this conflict. The death of Patronus leaves more questions than it answers.

    • Where did he come from?
    • How did he learn of VI’s research facility?
    • Why did they target that facility? Did they know what technologies lay there?

I do not relish the fact I killed Patronus. I sense something… shadowy has obscured something from us. Has another power leveled his malicious gaze toward Vanquished?

One can hope that the dark master we have can answer some of these questions. But my feeling is that this is unlikely…
