Grand Master Lumiani paced the her private temple chambers as if to wear a grove in the ancient flagstones beneath her feet. She’d worried for Lord Delrick since he had disappeared a month ago. His empire was in crisis, and so she and the High Council had done their best to hold it together while they all waited for the Lord General to return and lead the empire against Xarrena’s interference and her threats against the Lord General’s family.

But Xarrena and her Sith ilk had also disappeared. No more threats had been issued. No more Sith were attempting to sabotage VI and their struggle against the Eternal Empire. It was eerily silent and it had the Grand Master on edge for weeks.

Delrick’s former padawan, Kinjita, had deeply investigated the Lord General’s disappearance. She tracked him to Tattooine and there was evidence of some kind of battle, but she could not say whether a recent rakghoul infestation was responsible — or possible assassination attempt. No body had been found. No trace the of Lord General was discovered beyond Anchorhead.

Lumiani had been attempting to reach out to him as well but could no longer sense his presence within the Force. So too had she been seeking prominent, missing members of the VI leadership including Zera’ahn and Khanrii.

There had been no sign of them. But the effort had led her to discover ripples in the Force, tiny eddies emanating from planets across the galaxy. When she looked more closely, she discovered something new. She ordered the Jedi Sentinels and the newly-reorganized VITALS to investigate and validate her suspicions.

    Reformation
At last it was time to take control of Vanquished Illusions and steer her away from the slow decline the Lord General’s inexplicable disappearance had caused. No more could they simply maintain a holding pattern waiting for an absent leader. Lumiani prepared the way by speaking with the High Council, won their support, then assumed the position of master of Vanquished Illusions. Yet, it broke her heart to have to replace a man that had been dear to her heart.

But she was no lord, nor a general. She’d given up titles of nobility to become a Jedi and that’s who she was. Nor was she a general. She was a Jedi Grand Master and that’s what she always would be. She left control of the Jedi Order to a new Master of the Order and took the reigns to lead VI as a whole.

Then she immediately enacted changes sought by members of the High Council and favored by a full consensus of the entire group of officers:

    1. The Dark Jedi, as a separate order, were dissolved. Members who could not be redeemed would fall under the domain of the Jedi, in their own division named the Li’irtan. There, those Jedi who sought to find a balance, could not fully embrace the Jedi Code, or had fallen to the dark side, would be led by a wise teacher and former leader of the dark Jedi — Kaigami. All Jedi would be held to the standards set by Lumiani herself when she ran the Order; all grey or dark Jedi would respect other members of VI and act accordingly. Failure or otherwise causing disruption to VI was grounds for removal. Disagreements and philosophical disputes were expected to happen. Even duels. But there would be respect among the Jedi on both sides and this would be enforced.

    2. I.C.E., by popular demand, was returned to it’s former name of VITALS.

    3. A new position, Master of Operations, was formed and filled by a Magister. Their task would be to lead regular operations against world-class threats, enemy commanders, and high-level missions.

    4. A new position, Herald, was formed and filled by a new Magister. Assistants were also appointed. The Herald would be VI’s face to the world, recruit new people, and run Orientation classes.

    5. The Quartermaster position was reinstated and filled by the previous holder of the position and made a High Council position.
    The Evils of Collaboration
Investigation showed that the disturbances she felt across the galaxy were caused by powerful people in control of military resources across the galaxy who had chosen to actively work against VI’s alliance against the Eternal Empire.

    This will not stand.

The Grand Master ordered the Jedi Sentinels and VITALS to investigate further, then led a strike force to take down the threat. The enemy anticipated her move and a battle in space over Tattooine ensued, but the Eternity emerged victorious.

The encounter threatened the safety of the flagship, however, and all those aboard. Therefore, the experience caused the Grand Master to formulate new protocols of engagement. No longer would the Eternity be used for close-quarter space combat if it could be at all prevented. Instead, the Grand Master placed a new order for squadrons of Starfighters from the Quartermaster and has begun allocating resources to build new Hangars aboard the Eternity to house them.

The attack hadn’t stopped the Eternity, but it had given the collaborator commander time to escape. The Grand Master sent scouts across the galaxy to discover where these traitors had gone and found them on Belsavis and Alderaan. Two more strikes were executed, cutting down both collaborators.

But the Grand Master knew this was only the tip of the iceberg. Far more powerful foes lurked behind the scenes and she meant to dig them out.

The Grand Master ceased her pacing as she mulled all this over. A presence that had become familiar to her approached.

A mute woman showed a datapad where she had typed out, “Grand Master? You are unsettled.”

“Yes. I suspect the trouble with the collaborators runs much deeper than it appears. Why have the turned against us? Why is it only Imperial commanders? What have they to gain?” Lumiani shook her head. “Something about this all feels familiar. A situation I haven’t had to deal with since…”

The Grand Master stopped and stared at Anyasha. “Ready my personal starship.”

A question appeared on the mute Jedi’s face but she bowed and made her way out of the room.

“So,” Lumiani murmured to herself. “The Game has come to the Alliance.”
