According to the traditional Aarithine story of creation, the Aarith existed in light and goodness, while the chaotic Malos existed in darkness and ignorance in the void beyond. They existed independently of each other for aeons, manifested of contrary substances, and knowing nothing of each other. Conscious of its own being, Aarith  first created eight abstract beings of its own essence called the Devas who help it define itself – these are the Powers. They support the Aarith and represent beneficent aspects, along with numerous other Celestials which split from them, lesser beings often mistakenly worshipped by mortals as the Gods. The order and understanding that the Aarith brought to itself, became known to the chaos of the Malos (also known as the Other, or the Chaos), which threatened, assaulted and tried to poison the evolving creations of Aarith. Sensing this threat, Aarith willed the nascent universe itself to envelope and ensnare its evil and by doing so, understand it, order it, and by doing so, tame it.

Aartih created the universe in two parts: first the spiritual (Aetherial or Outer) and 3,000 years later, the physical (Terrestrial or Inner). The first to ensnare the chaos. The second to define and understand it. The minds of all of Aarith’s aspects began to weave a tapestry around the ensnared Malos, descending into the universe to bring forth a mighty plan to understand all and create anew from that understanding ever new wonders. To further understand Aarith then created Aemon and Aeva, the first thinking mortals who split into many races guided by the Celestials who descended into the Outer Universe. Some Celestials loving the creations of Aarith and being Aarith, chose to exist among the mortals directly, revealing themselves, and binding themselves to both worlds. The Malos, whose instinct is to destroy creation, warped and miscreated demons, undead, and other noxious creatures to unravel the universe, twisting everything. Like Aarith, the Malos split into many, but once freed became willful from each other, some even embracing their new universe and joining it, while others tried to tear it apart. In their chaos, they created an opposite, evil being for each good being, except for humans, which they found they could not match; save by poisoning in their hearts. However, the evil of Malos was trapped in the universe and could not retreat only slowly banished and controlled. Man thus struggles in a two-fold universe trapped with evil. The evils of this physical world are not products of an inherent weakness but are the fault of the Malos’s assault on creation. This assault turned the perfectly ordered, peaceful, and ever day-lit universe into a mountainous, violent place that is a half night.

Since those days, the Aarith continues to understand itself as we continue to understand it. It’s essence free to explore itself and the mystery of existence. New creations and new beauty abound, but the Malos still warps this creation and poisons man and beast alike. From time to time Aarith brings forth a Saint to redirect the wayward to the path of good and to aspire to the beauty of the unspoiled universe that was. The followers of Aarith worship the being, its creation, and the legion of saints who bring its message of peace and they combat the forces of Malos; the untamed horde bent on destruction, chaos, and ulimately the end of creation.
