Drake Stormlark
KeymasterThe Elf moved with a steady stride towards the large gathering of nobles surrounding an outside banquet. He held onto a large manila envelope destined for the hands of a giant by the name of Maryan Pero. He pulled his hat further down his face to conceal his unusual eyes in Shadow.
The Table reeked of overcooked, bland and positively burnt food. Lord Pero was bent over his banquet boasting like a gobbling turkey. The Elf wrinkled his nose at the awful stench trying not to sneeze as he addressed the Calpheon Noble.
“Lord Pero?”
He swept a few strands of Platinum blonde hair out of his face and readjusted his hat. He cleared his throat to get the giant’s attention.
“Ahem, Lord Pero?”
The giant turned feigning interest. “Yes?”
“I’m Private Investigator Adenium Datura. You asked me to bring you the evidence collected in regards to someone within Kalis Parliament.” He offered the envelope.
“Oh yes!” Maryan puffed up like a preening peacock as he took the paperwork, showing it off to the nobles around him.
“My fee, please?” The Elf bowed politely and extended his hand out.
“Once I’ve read this.” He turned his back on him and opened the envelope skimming over the two pages. He tore the pages in frustration and tossed them into a standing fire barrel. “Here!” Pero thrust a small coin purse into Adenium’s hands.
He opened the pouch causing Pero to turn bright red in the face.
“How dare you insult me.” Pero huffed.
A tiny puff of smoke issued from Adenium’s mouth as he spoke. “This is only a fourth of the contracted price. How dare you insult me!” He fumed pulling out a written contract and waived it in Pero’s face. “This was signed by you for Fifty thousand Silvers, regardless of the findings.”
Maryan scoffed, snatching the contract out of Adenium’s hands and tossed it to the flames. Adenium’s mouth fell open as the throng of nobles laughed and pointed at him.
“Since that helped me none at all. You’ll get what your paid Elf.” Gradually Pero’s face returned to a normal color. “However, I’m generous. Come, join us for the feast. You can’t beat….”
The rest of the words were lost as Adenium seethed. ~Good time as any to test out those Jump height crystals in the boots.~ He thought as he stalked up to Lord Pero.
“You know what Lord Pero? You’re absolutely wrong! You can beat a good Turkey.”
He tapped him on the arm and Pero swung around with a perturbed expression. Adenium leapt up and slugged Pero with every ounce of his strength. Pero careened backward falling against and through his own Banquet table. The nobles around them gasped and giggled.
“I cook things till they are crispy critters and that smells better then this horrid atrocity of shyt you call food!” Adenium hollered.
His blood pulsed in his own ears as the adrenaline rush brought a smile to his face. The loud clanging of metal brought him out of his elated state. Cussing to himself, he had enough sense to bolt for it, holding on dearly to his beloved hat.
An unexpected surprise impacted him quite literally as he passed by a darkened alley. A Calpheon soldier charged out of the shadows spearing him in the side.
“My hat!” Adenium whimpered with outstretched fingers as the hat tumbled down the road. “All right! I’ll go quietly, just please retrieve my hat.” He fretted as the soldiers pulled him to his feet. “Honestly you should try to eat Lord Pero’s food. The stray dogs here won’t even touch it.”
This warranted several loud chuckles for the soldiers as one picked up Adenium’s hat. The slowly walked him to the Calpheon jail laughing at his idle comments.
“My that will leave a hell of a bruise. Nice tactics. Who would have thought anyone could be so fleet-footed in all that armor.
Early the next morning::
The white-haired Lahn scaled up the side of Calpheon’s blacksmith’s building. She spoke to herself as she reached the roof.
“Oh my god. I left him alone for a single day and he got into shyt already. No wonder they allowed him to leave the sanctuary.”
Taking a deep breath, she leapt off the roof with a twist, using the powers bestowed upon all temple guardians, to fly towards the Calpheon Jail. The coin purse weighed heavily on her hip. She landed a few yards away and started to sprint to the building when Adenium walked out escorted by two soldiers. She skidded to a stop perplexed as he adjusted the hat on his head.
“Did you come to save me? You’re such a doll, Savyne.” He smiled a bit too amused for her liking. “Someone bailed me out. Although, they won’t tell me who.”
“Damn it Your Emin…”
“Oh no no no.” He interrupted her. “Shh. Such silly unneeded titles. The others may use them, but I don’t.” He waved dismissively.
“Shall I escort you to the inn?” She looked at the soldiers with a bit of worry.
“I got into a bit of trouble. I’m afraid I’m to be escorted out of the city and not allowed back for a few weeks.”
“Ugh!” She groaned. “I’ll get out horses.” She pulled a flute playing a few notes upon it.
Two horses trotted up whining a bit. She patted her horse on the side of the neck affectionately before climbing onto the saddle.
“I’ll take us to Duvencrune for now. You can’t cause too much mischief there.” She shook her head in disbelieve as he fought to get onto his own horse.
“Are you certain? It surely seems to find me.” He grinned finally getting into the saddle.
“I miss my ship.” Savyne sulked leading them east as the two guards followed behind them. She turned in her saddle to look at Adenium. “You’re supposed to be working to blend in. What did you do?!”
“I’ll tell you later. I’m in need of a bath and food. Calpheon is so dingy. I’d rather sleep in the poor districts out in the streets than in that jail again.”
The guards stopped at the edge of the city making sure the two continued on. Once on the country road, Savyne kicked her horse into a gallop and Adenium stuck close behind.
